PTSD Resilience Training

The Walters Method ™ has been developed against 3 fundamental principles:
  • It should be easy to learn and self administer
  • It should be easy to deliver, even over the phone
  • It should not cause the casualty any additional pain
The Walters Method™ for releasing the symptoms of PTSD combines a number of powerful techniques to produce extremely fast and efficient release. Over 70% of veterans who participated achieved complete release from their PTSD symptoms in the first two weeks of the programme. (The forerunner of one of these techniques was adopted as the national programme for treating PTSD casualties in Kosova).

A typical programme consists of a 3 day intervention - a half day training in the techniques, one day for one to one coaching sessions and a half day for self assessment and preparation for the follow up phase. Follow up coaching is provided for 28 days and additional sessions are conducted if required.

On the morning of the third day the spouse, or care giver of the PTSD casualty is taught the PTSD releasing techniques and in the afternoon of the third day the spouse/care giver and their loved one are brought together to start to rebuild the relationship.

The final assessment meeting confirms that the PTSD casualty has released the traumatic experience and is comfortable using the techniques taught during the course. This meeting would normally include the PTSD trainer, the (now symptom free) PTSD casualty and the case worker or counsellor providing long term support.

The most common problems for dealing with complex PTSD are:
  • Re-traumatisation - which runs the risk of destabilising the casualty - even to the point of suicide
  • Communicating core issues in a non threatening way
  • Effectively releasing the negative memory/emotion
  • Identifying deep rooted secondary issues
  • Obtaining closure
  • Supporting a credible vision of the future
There are a number of complimentary techniques which have been applied to this situation. These included such things as Trauma Release Technique (TRT) - a derivative of the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), Neuro Linguistic Programming, The Sedona Method, Tapas Acupressure Technique (TAT), aromatherapy, Part therapy, Brainwave Entrainment, Terminal Release Communications (TRC), autogenic relaxation, life mapping, visualisation, goal setting, path working and therapeutic massage. None of these techniques in isolation hold all the answers but presented together, sequentially, or in combination has produced remarkable results. The techniques are integrated into a seamless process and taught to the PTSD casualties during initial training phase and their spouse/caregiver on the last day.
